Tuesday Book Club
Read. Think. Speak.
The Tuesday Book Club is a structured yet interactive course designed to develop learners’ reading comprehension, vocabulary range, and spoken fluency through guided literary discussion.
The course is based on a carefully selected book of short stories, chosen for its linguistic richness, engaging themes, and suitability for language learners. Each week, students are asked to read and prepare two to three short stories in advance of the session. The texts are manageable in length, allowing participants to focus on understanding meaning, language use, and underlying ideas rather than simply completing large volumes of reading.
During the sessions, students are invited to actively participate in guided group discussions. Together, they analyse key elements of the stories such as plot, characters, setting, and themes, while also exploring the author’s intentions and stylistic choices where appropriate. Students respond to targeted comprehension and discussion questions, which encourage critical thinking and the clear expression of opinions.
The Book Club places a strong emphasis on spoken interaction, helping participants practise expressing ideas clearly, supporting arguments, and reacting to others’ viewpoints in a respectful and collaborative environment. Vocabulary expansion and useful expressions drawn directly from the texts are highlighted and recycled throughout the discussions.
This course is particularly well suited to learners who wish to improve fluency, confidence, and accuracy in spoken English while engaging with authentic written material. The Tuesday Book Club offers a supportive, intellectually stimulating setting that combines language development with the enjoyment of reading and shared discussion.
